Should art always be an impulse buy?
I just bought this. It’s a giclée print by an artist called Mr Purnam, it was displayed in a window in Shoreditch and caught my eye.
A little bit kitsch, or maybe a lot kitsch, whatever, looking at it makes me happy.
It reminds me of watching the Wizard of Oz over and over again with my first daughter, who became a fan aged two after some friends gave her a copy – it soon usurped Bambi. Obviously we loved ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’, who doesn’t? But ‘Lions and tigers and bears, oh my’ became our household mantra, in fact, she accused me of being ‘assessed’ with that song.
Apparently you’re meant to collect art that has some kind of personal resonance, this captures a moment in time for me and is a daily reminder to try and take any worries in my stride with a skip in my step like Dorothy and her gang. Who needs Nam Myoho Renge Kyo when you’ve got the snappier ‘Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!’
Think I’ll hang it above my desk.
